Tools, skills, and standards

The design software that I typically use include Figma, Whimsical, and Miro. I use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for web art/images

I’ve got plenty of coding experience under my belt, especially in HTML5, CSS3, and a bit of JavaScript. Right now, I’m in the midst of an online course diving deeper into JavaScript and React to level up my skills. To spice up my master’s final project website, I decided to take on the challenge of integrating WordPress. This way, I can make the content more dynamic. I used Advanced Custom Fields to pull this off, picking up some PHP and SQL skills along the way.

In tandem with my design and coding efforts, I place significant emphasis on optimizing websites for search engine visibility. To bolster SEO, I leverage tools like the Yoast SEO plugin, which aids in fine-tuning page titles, meta descriptions, and keyword usage for improved search engine rankings. Additionally, I integrate Google Analytics to track website performance and user behavior, enabling informed decisions to enhance SEO strategies further. By implementing best practices such as proper header hierarchy, meaningful content organization, and responsive design, I ensure websites are not only visually appealing but also primed for optimal search engine indexing and ranking, ultimately maximizing their online presence and reach.

I am familiar with Atom and Visual Studio Code. VS code is currently my favorite 😉

Accessibility is a cornerstone of my design philosophy and coding practices. When crafting websites, I prioritize features that enhance accessibility for all users. This includes implementing ARIA labels to provide context for interactive elements, using landmark roles to aid navigation for screen readers, and ensuring all images have descriptive alt text. Additionally, I focus on creating high color contrast for readability, incorporating keyboard navigation for those who cannot use a mouse, and designing flexible layouts that adapt to different screen sizes. By incorporating these elements seamlessly into my designs and coding, I strive to make the web more inclusive and user-friendly for everyone.

My MA studies have provided me with a solid understanding of current web standards and UXD principles, which I make sure to integrate into all my projects. I stay updated on any changes in these standards to ensure my work remains relevant. Creating responsive designs using a mobile-first approach is second nature to me, and I always keep sustainability in mind, such as optimizing image file sizes. Putting the user at the forefront of my design process is crucial to me.
